Women's History Month
Its Women's History Month, here are a few fun Orthodontic facts from some amazing women in dentistry!

While evidence suggests women practiced in the 18th century, Dr. Guilhermena P. Mendell (1901) is often cited as a key early female orthodontist.

Despite Lucy Hobbs Taylor becoming the first woman to earn a dental degree in 1866, women faced severe limitations in dental education until the mid-20th century.

Anna Hopkins Angle served as secretary of the Angle Society from 1902-1905 and significantly influenced the field's early development. She was known as the "First Lady of Orthodontics"

Breaking the Ceiling: Dr. Gayle Glenn became the first female president of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) in 2013, 114 years after its founding.

As of 2024, approximately one in three (AAO) American Association of Orthodontics members is female, and women make up the majority (58%) of student members!
